The Biden administration has imposed new sanctions on 35 companies and ships that, according to the US Treasury Department, illegally transported Iranian oil to foreign markets. These measures complemented the sanctions imposed on October 11 and were a response to Iran's ballistic missile attack on Israel on October 1, as well as its announced nuclear escalation. The statement from the Ministry of Finance emphasizes that Iran directs oil trade revenues to the development of its nuclear program, ballistic missile and drone technology, as well as to finance terrorist groups, which threatens the stability of the region. Acting Undersecretary for Counterterrorism and Financial Intelligence Bradley Smith noted: The sanctions are aimed at further limiting Iran's ability to use oil revenues to support military and terrorist operations.«The United States will continue to use all available tools and powers to disrupt the activities of the shadow fleet and operators facilitating this illegal trade.»
