By the end of 2024, the United States became Germany's main trading partner, surpassing China for the first time since 2015. The foreign economic turnover between the two countries amounted to 252.8 billion euros. From 2016 to 2023, it was China that held the lead in this list. Nevertheless, the volume of trade between Germany and the United States increased by only 0.1%, due to a decrease in exports of German products to China, as a result of which the total turnover with this country decreased by 3.1%, amounting to 246.3 billion euros. The Netherlands regained the third position among Germany's largest trading partners with a turnover of 205.7 billion euros, which is 4.2% less than in 2023. Traditionally, exports of German goods to the United States exceed imports of American goods, and in 2024 this difference increased by almost 10%, reaching 70 billion euros. France and the Netherlands became the second and third largest exporters from Germany. At the same time, China remained the most important supplier of goods to Germany, followed by the Netherlands and the United States. Germany's foreign trade surplus increased by 21.4 billion euros in 2024, eventually reaching 239.1 billion euros.
