Elon Musk has created a new company xAI

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter, announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence company called xAI, which «will strive to understand the true nature of the Universe.» 

Musk and his team plan to provide more details about the project in a live Twitter chat Spaces on Friday. To work on the new project, Musk received thousands of GPU processors from Nvidia, which will be used to develop a large-scale language model.

One of the advisers to Musk's startup will be Dan Hendricks, executive director of the AI Security Center. Earlier, Hendrix published a letter on behalf of the leaders of the center that reducing the risk of human extinction due to artificial intelligence should become a global task, along with threats such as pandemics and nuclear war.

However, this letter was criticized by a number of scientists and ethicists, as the increased attention to the growing power of AI and its future threats distracts from the real harm that algorithms cause to vulnerable members of the community now, and not in the indefinite future.

Despite this, the founders of xAI say that their startup will focus on the mathematics of deep machine learning and the development of a «theory of everything» for large neural networks in order to achieve a new level of artificial intelligence.
