The European Commission has responded to Donald Trump's calls for the European Union to actively purchase liquefied natural gas from the United States. According to EC representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen, currently about half of all LNG imported into the EU is already supplied from the United States, and the European side is open to further expansion of cooperation in this area. This statement was made in response to recent statements by Trump, in which he set conditions for easing trade tensions and reducing duties, suggesting that the EU increase purchases of American LNG by up to $350 billion. Itkonen stressed the strategic importance of diversifying energy supplies for the EU and noted that the United States plays a key role in the process of abandoning dependence on Russian energy resources. The European Union considers American partners as an important participant in ensuring the energy security of the region and is ready to discuss the prospects for increasing LNG imports from the United States.
