The European central bank’s capital decision of 8.8 billion euro was criticized after the Bank of Italy had a different estimate which is significantly lower compared with the ECB. However, the treasury imposed 6.6 billion euros ($6.92 billion) for the allotted cost of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena’s state rescue. According to the ECB, the €4.6bn is allocated for the immediate expenses of the state, while the €2bn is kept for the retail investor’s compensation and the remaining €2.2bn is intended for “other entities”.
