European Commission Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson said today that the European Union and the United States will work together to end their dependence on fossil fuels. On her Twitter account, Simson wrote that current events in the global energy markets once again emphasize the need to end dependence on fossil fuels. A strong increase in gas prices in Europe has led to a serious rise in the cost of electricity and an even greater understanding that the European Union needs to increase the use of energy from renewable sources, prices for which have not shown such jumps as the cost of gas. As you know, the second day of the COP26 climate conference has started today, at which the American and European sides will discuss further cooperation. The EU has previously stated that it intends to become «climate neutral» by the middle of the century. However, the implementation of this strategy requires an investment of trillions of euros.
