Глава Евросовета Дональд Туск заявил в Европарламенте о том, что необходимо расширять, а не сужать торговые отношения ЕС с США.

Евросоюз надеется, что будет на постоянной основе исключен из действия санкций на импорт стали и алюминия, введенных правительством Соединенных Штатов. В противном случае ЕС придется прибегнуть к ответным мерам.

Глава Евросовета подчеркнул, что хотел бы избежать торгового противостояния с США и призвал к диалогу, который бы способствовал наращиванию торговых отношений между ЕС и США.

Ранее президент США Дональд Трамп ввел пошлины на импорт стали в размере 25% и алюминия – в 10%, чтобы «защитить национальную безопасность США». При этом действие санкций для Евросоюза и ряда других стран было приостановлено до 1 мая.

Кроме того, США заявили, что готовы до 1 мая обсуждать с представителями Евросоюза альтернативные меры обеспечения национальной безопасности. По итогам переговоров будет возможно продлить отказ от пошлин для ЕС.
