The EU has decided to speed up negotiations with the United States in order to avoid a possible trade confrontation between the two sides. This step was taken a few days after Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the slowness of the bloc and accused it of insufficient economic honesty towards the United States. Paula Pinho, a spokeswoman for the European Commission, noted that the process had received a new impetus. She explained that after a telephone conversation between Ursula von der Leyen and Trump, the parties agreed to accelerate the discussion of trade issues and maintain a close dialogue. As a result, Trump decided to postpone the introduction of 50% duties for EU countries, extending the benefits until July 9. Nevertheless, the negotiation process faced a number of difficulties. A concrete solution that could satisfy both sides has not yet been worked out. The European side is perplexed by the lack of a clear understanding of the American demands and who exactly is authorized to voice them. At the same time, the United States complains that the EU, in their opinion, unfairly restricts the activities of American companies by imposing lawsuits and strict regulatory measures against them.
