According to a press release from the German Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), annual inflation in December updated the record since 1992 (5.8%) and amounted to 5.3%. A month earlier, the indicator was marked at the level of 5.2%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices in Germany increased by 0.3% in December. Analysts predicted a slowdown in annual inflation to 5.1%. At the same time, consumer prices in Germany according to EU standards (harmonized consumer price index) slowed down to 5.7% year–on-year (from 6% a month earlier), and for the month the growth rate remained the same as in November – 0.3%. The annual indicator coincided with forecasts, and the monthly one was expected at the level of 0.2%. Analysts called the rise in the price of energy carriers the main reason for the increase in inflation.
